PRESS ME

WELCOME

We at PPK recognise there are a lot of bad things going on in the world at the moment — a cost of living crisis, war in Ukraine, Love Island. In light of this, and inspired by sub-2 marathoner and proud PPK ambassador, Eliud Kipchoge’s pronouncement that “Running is peace”, we are humbled to present this year’s theme: Summer of Love / Running is Peace. UN endorsement pending.

If all of the drivel I’ve just written about peace seems confusing, fluffy, what I’m saying is — we are putting on a running event, there will probably be pills, please come?

GENERAL

Location: Beckenham Place Park. Date: Saturday 13th August. Theme: see above. Cost: historically run at a huge personal net loss, this year we might ask for a bit more money for any merchandise / food etc. More details ahead of the day.

ROUTE

Last year we pioneered the BYOR (Bring Your Own Route) concept, but seemingly none of you understood it. It’s not very complicated so I’m just going to re-link last year’s explanation.

We will also be offering a more traditional fixed and timed route. Distance TBC but between 5km and a half marathon. Train accordingly.

“ENTERTAINMENT”

I think we can all agree we learned a lot last year from esteemed academic @dannyyoloofficial’s guest lecture, On the History of Running. It certainly gave the eggheads at Horrible Histories something to think about. Anyway, we’re delighted to say he’s refound his faith just in time to grace us with a running-based sermon, which will hopefully drag you godless lot out of the gutter and inspire some PBs. Running is salvation. God bless.

HOT SAUSAGES / CATERING

Given the success of last year’s picnic, Charlie “peace and love” Smith will kindly be feeding us again. This time joined by Sweyn, The Saturday Boy. Expect more salads, some bread, and, following the universally negative feedback, some actually Hot Sausages.

THANKS

We owe a few thank yous from last year — to Fran’s mum, for the surprise cake; Eleanor, for hosting 38 strangers at the after party; Sam Maxwell, for being very strong; Ben, for ordering ecstasy. This year a special thanks goes to the famously chill guys at FIFA HQ and the Qatari Royal Family for pushing back the world cup to avoid any clashes and help us bring peace.
